Missionaries are not disposable. They need care just like the rest of us.
Actually, maybe even more so. The number of missionaries desperate for pastoral care may astound you. You are invited to take a closer look into this need. Whether you are a missionary needing care, a care-giver, a church or agency that wants to provide care but needs equipping to do so, or whether you want to financially contribute to our work as we care for missionaries, we have provided resources on this site to help you.
Missionaries are crying out for care, and they are losing heart without it. It is reported that thousands of missionaries return home each year for preventable reasons. Why? Too few churches and agencies provide intentional proactive pastoral care for their missionaries. Isolation, both cultural and physical; prolonged demands for flexibility; increased security threats; poor conflict resolution skills; and poor wellness strategies contribute to the problem. On top of this, missionaries who stay on the field over 5 years are likely to be faced with not knowing their church's current leaders. Sadly, the old adage can play out, "out of sight, out of mind."
Missionaries are desperate for care. We pastorally tend missionary hearts, and we help equip and resource churches and agencies who send missionaries to better care for them. Many missionaries are struggling and losing heart even now without it, often leaving the mission field broken and disillusioned. We invite you to take a further look into this vital and urgent need of missionaries, and how you can join in providing for their care. Its an issue of stewardship. Missionaries are not disposable.
